Offline, free, open source

Your voice stays yours.

Works offline

After a one-time model download, Parrot doesn't need the internet. Transcription, cleanup, and call summaries all run on your Mac's Neural Engine and Apple's on-device model.

Free

No account, no subscription, no word limits. Download it and dictate as much as you like.

Open source

Every line is on GitHub under the MIT license. Read what it does with your audio, build it yourself, or change it.

Hands-free

Wake it with a word.

Turn on Listen for “Oy” and Parrot listens on the microphone you pick. Start a sentence with the wake word and it types the rest.

  1. Say “Oy” at the start of a sentence. Saying it mid-sentence doesn't count, so talking about parrots won't set it off.
  2. Keep talking. A soft sound plays and a red dot appears on the parrot in the menu bar.
  3. Pause for a second. Parrot writes it down on your Mac and types it into the field you're in.

Prefer another word? Pick any word in settings. “Parrot” works too.

Features

Built for how you talk.

Tap ⌥ to start and stop

No wake word needed. Tap Option, speak, tap it again. Option shortcuts still work, because only a quick tap on its own counts.

Pick your model

Choose from five Parakeet speech models or Apple's built-in one. Delete the ones you don't use in Settings.

Pastes where you are

Parrot types into the field you're in, then puts your clipboard back. Apple's on-device model fixes punctuation and drops the ums.

Your vocabulary

Add names and jargon, with how they get misheard, and Parrot spells them your way.

Call notes

Record a call from the menu bar. You get a transcript of both sides and a summary with decisions and action items.

Searchable history

Every dictation, with the model used and how long it took. Compare models on your own recordings.
